Long-Term Building Automation and Mechanical Support for a Large Public School System
Since 1986, Frazier Service Company has partnered with Gwinnett County Public Schools to provide building automation solutions and ongoing mechanical support across the district. What began as early building automation work has grown into a long-term relationship that now includes HVAC service, maintenance, repairs, remodel support, and broader energy management efforts.
Today, Frazier supports schools throughout the district with custom solutions designed to improve control, efficiency, and day-to-day facility performance.
Project Details and Process
Gwinnett County Public Schools needed a trusted partner that could meet the district’s high standards for quality, efficiency, and system performance. In the early years of building automation, the district was looking for better visibility and control over equipment, along with a smarter way to manage energy use across a large portfolio of buildings.
Frazier implemented and expanded building automation solutions across the district using H I Solutions technology, helping GCPS gain greater control over HVAC and lighting systems throughout its schools. Today, Frazier helps manage approximately 95% of the district’s air conditioning systems and controls much of the lighting as well.
Motion sensors installed in classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, and other areas automatically turn lights on and off based on occupancy. These same sensors also help adjust heating and air conditioning in empty rooms, reducing unnecessary energy use when spaces are not occupied. At night, lighting systems shut down automatically, supporting additional energy savings and greater building awareness.
The district also benefits from water leak detection that helps identify problems early before they become more costly, as well as monitoring for cooling tower make-up systems. Through a custom dashboard, district teams can log in and see exactly how mechanical systems are operating across their facilities, giving them better insight into performance and control.
In addition to automation support, Frazier also performs a significant amount of summer remodel work for the district. These projects often include updates such as new ceilings, carpet, paint, HVAC improvements, and light fixtures, allowing schools to make meaningful facility upgrades while students are out of the building.
Results of the Project
